Today, friends, is a great day.
First, the weather was beautiful. Nice cool breeze, good amount of sun, and ice skating. That's right. We went ice skating.
I schooled all the kids who were racing me; I schooled all of the counselors who raced me; I can still bring the heat on some of the tricks that I thought I couldn't do. I fell once on my knee trying to do an an axel jump. I got it right the first time, then I fell on my second time really badly. Keep in mind, an axel is a figure skating jump, and absolutely hard to do with hockey skates on. Nevertheless, I toughened up, got up and did it like a pro. :-D
I've lost touch with a lot of moves that I know... partly 'cause I can't do 'em with hockey skates and party 'cause I haven't been practicing. I can only do a right-leg shoot the duck, an axel, couple spins, and the easier stuff like spread eagle, lunge, half flip, and the grace move - spiral. Anyway, these are mostly used in figure skating... but there's not much I can do without a stick if I want to play hockey. I did a lot of hockey stops, covering my site directors and kids in snow, scaring the crap out of Allison and Mitch('cause I skated really fast towards 'em and hockey-stopped right infront of 'em).
I think I'm a better coach than I am a counselor. I got a lot of kids in a group and taught 'em how to skate, and I had a whole lot more patience than I would ever have. I had a couple break throughs by the end of the day. I miss coaching a lot.
Mmmm and Petersen gave me an A. I asked for an A-, but as they don't give out minuses, she gave me an A. I just walked in, sat down, and "here ya go".
What a great day.
